Internal linking for topical authority (a simple system)
12/19/2025 · 1 min read
Internal links are one of the highest-leverage SEO actions because you control them completely.
The goal
- Help readers find the next step.
- Make it obvious what each content cluster is about.
The “hub and spokes” model
- Hub page: your main guide on a topic.
- Spokes: supporting articles that answer one question each.
Every spoke links up to the hub, and the hub links down to the spokes.
Where to add links
A practical pattern:
- 1–2 links in the introduction
- 2–4 links in the body
- 2–3 links near the end (“Next steps”)
Use descriptive anchor text
Avoid “click here.” Instead:
- “WordPress security checklist”
- “How to speed up WordPress”
Keep it honest
Don’t link just to link. Every link should help the reader.
Internal linking is how your blog becomes a guided experience instead of a pile of posts.
